The American
Turns out that this film’s quality can be gleaned from two key pieces of information:
1.) Director - Anton Corbijn
This fellow directed Control, one of the finest films there ever was. Control was beautiful, moody, restrained. The American is all these things.
2.) Writer of the adapted screenplay - Rowan Joffe
Now, this fellow is responsible for penning 28 Weeks Later, the bullshit sequel to the cinematic perfection that was 28 Days Later. One might say Rowan dropped the ball on that one. The same can be said of The American. The story is not strong enough to do justice to the pacing and subtlety of the cinematography and direction.
