Idris Elba. Bond.
For over a year now there’s been buzz about Idris Elba as the next James Bond. In other words, I’m really late to the party. I was aware of the buzz well before I was sold on it, but since I realized how perfect it would be I’ve formed a very strong emotional connection to the idea, and really can’t get it out of my head.
I think the first thing I saw him in was Thor, which I didn’t like for a variety of reasons (except for Tom Motherfucking Hiddleston). I couldn’t get behind him as Heimdall—they just made him the stereotypical magic black man. I was aware he was striking and handsome, but that was it.
Then it all changed.
The Wire is an incredible show, and he is incredible in it. Incredible. Somewhere around season two I binged on Luther. Holy fuck. Not a flawless program, but again, he is incredible. He is such a chameleon that I would completely believe that Stringer Bell and Luther were played by different actors. His transformative powers affected me like no other actor’s have.
So, a strong, strapping, handsome middle-aged (ahem, sexy-aged) brit, who is also a phenomenal actor? JAMES BOND.
